When Must Consultation Take Place
A safe and healthy workplace is easier to achieve when workers are consulted and involved. That is why consultation is mandatory under the WHS Act.
(See sections 47 - 49)
Company directors, CEOs and business owners (as representatives of a PCBU) must ensure that the business consults with workers through their, Health & Safety Representatives, or by way of the Health & Safety Committee when;
■ Identifying hazards and assessing risks to health and safety
■ Making decisions about ways to eliminate or minimise those risks
■ Proposing changes that may affect the health and safety of workers
■ Making decisions about the adequacy of facilities for the welfare of workers
■ When making decisions about procedures for:
- consulting with workers
- resolving workplace health and safety issues
- monitoring the health of workers
- monitoring workplace conditions
- providing information and training for workers
