Course Overview

 

The Courtenell Fire Extinguisher Training course provides participants with the essential knowledge and practical skills required to respond safely and effectively to small workplace fire emergencies using first attack firefighting equipment. The training covers the identification and classification of different types of fires, the selection of appropriate firefighting equipment, and the safe operation of portable fire extinguishers, fire hose reels and fire blankets.

 

To ensure the course reflects current industry best practice, its content has been mapped* against the following nationally recognised units of competency:

• PUAFER008: Confine small emergencies in a facility.

• CPPFES2005: Demonstrate first attack firefighting equipment.

 

* This course has been developed with reference to the knowledge and performance criteria of these nationally recognised units of competency. Completion of this course does not constitute competency in, or award of, either unit of competency.

 

Who Should Attend?

 

This course is suitable for:

• All employees as part of workplace fire and emergency preparedness.

• Fire Wardens and other members of the Emergency Control Organisation (ECO).

• WHS Officers, Safety Professionals and Facility Managers.

• Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs).

• Anyone wishing to improve their fire safety knowledge and emergency response capability.

Assessment

Participants will be assessed through:​

​

1. A written knowledge assessment covering fire safety principles and the correct selection and use of first attack firefighting equipment.

2. Practical activities requiring participants to safely and effectively demonstrate the selection and use of firefighting equipment.

 

Certification

​

Successful participants will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Important information: This is a non-accredited training course delivered by Courtenell. Accordingly, a Statement of Attainment cannot be issued. A Certificate of Completion is issued to participants who successfully complete the course.
