What WHS Consultation Courses can Managers and Supervisors Attend?
We often receive questions about what WHS consultation training is available for:
a) Management Representatives on Health & Safety Committees, or
b) Managers and Supervisors whose responsibilities include interaction with HSRs, or
c) Officers who have an active duty to ensure that mandatory consultation requirements in the WHS Act are complied with.
So we decided to publish this article and offer it to our database. We hope you find it useful.
Who can attend the 5 Day SafeWork NSW HSR Course?
Managers, Supervisors and others can attend this course. Many committees now have HSRs on them and commonly all non- management representatives are HRS. This course can suit any of the persons listed above in a), b) and c). They will gain an understanding of mandatory consultation requirements in their workplace, their role in the mandatory consultation process and the role, powers and limitations of HSRs. These attendees will receive a SafeWork NSW course certificate on completion of the course but because they are not HSRs they do not have the powers of a HSR.
Workers who have been elected by their workgroup as a Health & Safety Representative can attend this course and obtain a SafeWork NSW certificate for it. On completion of the course they are entitled to exercise the power of issuing a provisional improvement notice or directing that unsafe work cease.
Who can attend the 1 day SafeWork NSW HSR Refresher course?
Managers, Supervisors and others can attend this course and receive a Statement of Attendance on completing it. This course can suit any of the persons listed above in a), b) and c). They will gain an understanding of the mandatory consultation requirements in their workplace, their role in the mandatory consultation process and the role, powers and limitations of HSRs.
HSRs who provide evidence that they have completed the 5 day SafeWork NSW HSR course or SafeWork NSW 1 Day HSR Bridging Course can attend this course and will receive a SafeWork NSW course certificate. For more information about HSR training details go to HERE
Who can deliver SafeWork NSW HSR Training?
The two HSR Training Courses above can only be delivered by a SafeWork NSW Approved Training Provider. Courtenell is a SafeWork NSW Approved Training Provider and has been delivering SafeWork NSW courses, and previously, WorkCover NSW courses, for the past 23 years.
Who can attend a Health & Safety Committee Course?
In addition to Worker Representatives of the Committee, Managers and Supervisors and Officers in a), b), and c) listed above can definitely attend. The question is more a matter of what benefits would best suit your workplace and which of our Committee courses will provide it.
