The items on the list below are major factors in achieving a safe and healthy workplace. You can see these items in section 19 of the WHS Act 2011. You may find this list useful in helping you spot areas in your workplace that need improvements.  



Provide a work environment that is without risks to health and safety



Provide and maintain safe plant and structures



Create and maintain safe systems of work



The safe use, handling, and storage of plant, structures and substances



Provide adequate facilities that the workers can access for their welfare



Provide information, instruction, and training that is necessary to protect all persons from risk to their health and safety



Monitor conditions at the workplace and the health of workers to prevent illness and injury


Action Steps

  1. Consider and give a score out of 10 to each item in the list.
  2. Now decide which item you should take up first and gather the facts about that.  
  3. If your facts show there is a real situation that needs to be handled use the established WHS system in your workplace to help bring about change.
